Do you have connections with Logie Steading and Estate?
We would love to hear your stories! Here at Logie we are celebrating a few centenaries around about now.
2026 will be 100 years since the building of Logie Steading. Of course, 100 years ago, the buildings had a very different purpose as a model farm and many people have lived and worked around the steading and estate in the century since.
We are planning an exhibition of stories and images to be displayed here for the steading’s centenary next year. Over the years we have collected our own photos and people have got in touch to share theirs too (you will find some upstairs in the cafe) and we would love to share more of the history of this place than we already know, and of those for whom Logie played a part in their lives.
We would love to hear from people with connections to Logie. Perhaps you or your family members lived and worked here. Perhaps you visited and have a little story of your memory of coming here back in the day. We would love to see your photos and hear your stories.
And by-the bye, we’re in an era of centenaries here, all running back to Sir Alexander Grant. We have just celebrated 100 years since Alexander Grant came to Logie in 2024 (he was the first of the current family to live here, of course many others had lived at Logie House before). Many locals will know that Grant worked his way up in McVities and is known as the developer of the Digestive biscuit. He became a philanthropist who gave to many causes, one example was giving Grant Park to Forres in 1924 (another recent centenary!). He also gave the endowment that created Scotland’s National Library in Edinburgh which has its centenary this year, 2025, as well as making many other philanthropic gifts, some public and some only now being discovered. His story is summarised here in the Heritage Centre at Logie Steading and has recently been well told in a series of talks in the Tollbooth in Forres, the town of his birth.
