Logie Timber Supplies ‘Maker of the Moment’ is NEW to Logie Steading! The shop will feature a local maker and to showcase their incredible work and skills!
First up we have: Adrian Cammack who has been turning wood at his home in Speyside for almost a decade.
Adrian was first inspired to explore turning out of a wish to preserve and celebrate some of our native hardwoods. The wood he used is collected during the course of restoring a remnant of ancient deciduous woodland beside his home and all items are turned by hand from hardwoods derived from this source, unless otherwise stated
Most items are turned over-size (‘roughed out’) from wet wood before setting aside to air dry until seasoned, after which they are returned to the lathe and finished.
Fallen woodland floor material is a particular favourite for Adrian, often challenging to turn but rewarding perseverance with spectacular grain colouring and patterns (spalting) as a consequence of early fungal attack – a gift from nature and very special.
Pop down to Logie Timber Supplies to see Adrian’s work for yourself. Open 7 days a week, 10am – 5pm.
