One year in Logie Bookshop

Pierce ran the shop for six years before retiring and it was taken over by Helen Trussell, a familiar face to many at Logie Steading. She too ran the shop until her own retirement in 2017. During this time Helen saw many changes at the Steading including, in 2012, the move of the Café to its current location from where the Gallery can be found today. 

In 2017 Logie Bookshop was taken on by Ruth (who had previously worked for Helen) and her partner Annie. They brought a splash of colour to the shop and, along with their sprocker Gus, became part of the Logie family. They steered the shop through the challenging ‘Covid’ years and out the other side before deciding to retire to spend more time doing the things they love which include rowing, wild swimming and going for country walks with the ever faithful Gus.

The last 12 months and beyond

This brings us to 2022 when myself, Jan, and partner Stuart took the Bookshop on. I had previously worked in the shop part time for 5 years, as well as in the Logie Art Gallery, so am already a well known face at the Steading. Our aim is to continue the good work of all our predecessors during our custodianship of this well loved shop.

Since taking the shop on, we have begun to introduce a range of new books, mostly with a local/Scottish theme, along with a range of splendid new books for children. We also have a section to promote local authors and will be hosting events including book signings and author talks/readings and hopefully some storytelling events for children. For example, we recently welcomed A G Rivett, author of The Isle Fincara Trilogy, to the Bookshop. He gave a wonderful reading of his eagerly anticipated second book of the series due out later in 2023.

We have expanded the range of gifts available in the shop with more beautiful notebooks, journals and bookmarks including fabulous designs from the Museums & Galleries collection, greetings cards with vintage book cover/bookshelf designs from the Bodleian Library plus a small range of high quality jigsaws and games for children and adults.

Our first year has flown by and we have been busy making some minor changes to the layout of the shop. We are building a wonderful team of staff who all bring different skills and much enthusiasm so hopefully the shop will continue to go from strength to strength. We are greatly appreciative of all our customers and their supportive comments and valued custom. Thank you all for supporting the local businesses here at Logie Steading.
