Father’s Day Inspiration from Logie

It often seems that we struggle with inspiration for Father's Day. On Mother's Day, local cafes are full to bursting and florists and cake shops are emptied of stock, but when it comes to Father's Day, things can seem a little trickier and if you're not careful you can end up with a last minute 'best dad in the world' mug from the petrol station, which is a nice sentiment, but it's not highly original. So if you'd like to treat your dad to something different, that'll really make him feel you thought about him this June 16th (yep, that's a week Sunday folks), here's a bit of inspiration of things to see, do and gift from us here at Logie.

Unique Father's Day Gifts at Logie Steading

Logie Whisky & Wine

An oldie but a goodie, a bottle of his favourite whisky or gin is always going to be a winner. And if you're looking to surprise him, the whisky shop has hundreds of specialist Scotch whiskies and gins - you'll almost certainly be able to find something he's never tried before. If whisky & gin isn't his thing there's also a good selection of wines, local beers and paraphernalia to choose from too.

The Boardroom

This is a veritable man-cave. Logie Timber's showroom adjoining the farm shop is a haven for woody types. There are beautiful hardwood boards in varying finishes for people who like to make their own furniture, kitchens or anything else, chunks of burr Elm & other turning blanks, right through to beautifully finished furniture, wooden art, lighting, chopping boards and even fire pits and fire wood. Well worth a look. And if you'd like a gift voucher please contact us

Logie Steading Bookshop

The secondhand bookshop at Logie is often a haven for dads - if anyone can't find a husband we always suggest a hunt in there as there are so many interesting books and themes that they can be swallowed for hours! There's a great range to suit all bookish tastes, from rare early editions of Scottish books to local history, birding and aviation to fun titles such as Biggles and the Ladybird 'The Husband'. Worth a browse, and if you don't know what he'd like, they offer book vouchers too!

My Secret Dressing Room

You might think that this Aladdin's Cave of a shop isn't the natural fit for father's day. But Barbara has a gorgeous collection of true vintage cufflinks just now. A smart gift that you won't find an exact match for anywhere else.

Iolaire

Tez can make a bespoke printed gift for your father to suit his tastes. He's into vintage cars, Tez can print a canvas blueprint of many different car designs for you. Or how about a bespoke board game? This RAF version of Monopoly is an example of how the game can be converted to suit your own father's interests and makes a really thoughtful present! Tez is also able to touch up old photographs so if there's a precious memory in your family and the print has seen better days, why not take it along to him and see what he can do.

Hellygog

Hellygog has a huge range of gifts, generally made by local Scottish craftspeople. It's definitely worth popping in for a browse but here's a few suggestions to whet your appetite: handmade horseshoe welly boot stand, original artwork or print, one of Steve's original t shirts, whisky stave clocks & drinks paraphernalia and so much more.

Logie Farm & Garden Shop

If your father is a gardener he will be in heaven here. There's a huge range of in-house and locally grown plants available, plus tools and useful garden kit. If your dad is a meat-lover we also have our own extensively-reared Longhorn beef, lamb, pork and wild Roe venison from Logie Estate too.

But my dad doesn't want any more stuff!

How about an experience? There are plenty of authentic choices right here at Logie Steading.

Salmon Fishing on the River Findhorn

Perhaps your dad is an avid fly fisherman, or has always wanted to give it a try. The River Findhorn is one of the most beautiful rivers to fish in the world (while we might be biased, it's genuinely what many of our visitors from far and wide say over again), and is a wonderful place to spend time across the generations and is available to book for 1-4 rods by the day or by the week. More information can be found here

A Course or Workshop

We have So Many courses and workshops to choose from here at Logie, each run by a knowledgeable individual in their field. At Hellygog you'll find craft workshops, there are photography training walks run by Gary Murison throughout the summer, there's Drystone Dyke Building with Ewen Manson, and a host of different green woodworking furniture making courses with Aaron Sterritt to choose from - learn to make all sorts of things from a table to a West Coast chair or woven-seat stool. Information about all the different courses and workshops, and how to book them can be found at our What's On page.

Outdoor Theatre Tickets

Perhaps he'd enjoy joining you on a relaxed outdoor theatre trip this summer. We have Shakespeare's The Tempest, Mary Shelley's Frankenstein and - if he'd like to go together with his children - there's the family-fun Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves. More information and how to book can be found here

And finally...

A Trip to Logie Steading & the Olive Tree Cafe!

How about a walk along the beautiful River Findhorn, a stroll through the gardens and a tasty treat at the cafe. How about a leisurely bacon roll breakfast, a venison burger lunch or a delicious cake or cream tea in the afternoon to top the day off nicely..

It really is the Thought that Counts

It doesn't have to be expensive. It may sound obvious but in the desire to find the perfect thoughtful present, it's easy to forget that, if you're lucky enough to have a father close by, some time shared might well be the best thing you can give him for Father's Day. A walk along the beautiful River Findhorn, maybe a cuppa or a cake, and maybe a small memento of your day together - anything from a postcard to a bookmark that made you laugh together. And if you're not together, a phone call and a card in the post to make him smile. Whatever this Father's Day has in store for you, we wish all the wonderful fathers out there a very happy day!
