Jack considers being outside a natural and significant part of his life. He takes inspiration from the changes and movement in the raw environment that surrounds us, outside of our homes. Through the generation of ideas and creation of physical work, he hopes to give people a chance to connect with the landscapes around us. Established within his output is a respect for nature. He hopes to inspire others to advocate that respect and build a deeper understanding of wild places. A childhood in the Scottish Highlands was the foundation for his interest in the natural world. Majestic landscapes were right on his doorstep. A view across the Moray Firth to Ben Wyvis greeted him every morning. His parents took him and his brother to all corners of the north, for picturesque drives, day trips to remote beaches and camping on the rugged west coast. He now tries to spend as much time as possible outside. His passions lie in exploring, photographing, film making and drawing. His current work is detailed and concise. He has a solid eye for picking interesting compositions in the natural world, looking for balance but intrigue. Where possible, he'll work from his own photographs of locations. It all starts with a rough pencil sketch, if the composition comes together, he'll add more details in pencil before reflecting and then getting into the inking - which flows in 3 steps; long/bold line work, smaller lines/mark making and finally stippling for the shadows and depth. He works in sections, almost grid like, working top to bottom, left to right. He focuses on finding how different features line up within the environment and composition, using angles, horizontal and vertical lines.
This exhibition will comprise of original artworks for sale, created with fine line black pen and a range of prints and cards for sale also. There will be new works on show at the exhibition completed this year.
