The Findhorn, Nairn and Lossie Rivers Trust is a place-based nature restoration organisation uniquely positioned to play a key role in improving local resilience in the face of the nature and climate emergencies. We work at a catchment-scale and in partnership with land owners/managers, local communities and businesses, blending sources of funding and delivering action to protect and restore our rivers, their watersheds and the wildlife which inhabits them.
Our work includes managing invasive non-native species (through the Scottish Invasive Species Initiative), carrying out juvenile fish surveys, monitoring smolt output and recording water temperatures, as well as advising on relevant infrastructure developments (such as windfarms) and delivering our flagship nature recovery project, the Findhorn Watershed Initiative. We also provide administrative support to the Findhorn and Lossie District Salmon Fishery Boards, the former of which employs two water Bailiffs who conduct regular river patrols.
Located next door to Rivers Trust HQ, our landscape-scale nature recovery project – the Findhorn Watershed Initiative – is a multi-generational vision to restore a mosaic of nature rich habitats, grow a local culture of nature connection and enable a thriving nature-positive economy, for the people and places of the Findhorn watershed. Created in response to the global drive towards net zero and eco-system restoration, the Findhorn Watershed Initiative offers an accelerated, collaborative approach to habitat restoration, carbon sequestration and river stewardship.
