What to expect:
Trysting Trees is a series of theoretical and creative workshops based on trees commonly found in the UK and Ireland. The project is an ongoing inquiry into plant connection, through the lens of artists, gardeners and foragers.
In this workshop join us in growing an attunement to birch through the following methods and mediums;
Making art materials using various parts of birch: plant dyes, inks, paints, papers, charcoal and mark making tools.
Medicinal properties: tinctures, wine, flower essences, tea infusions, syrups. How is birch known to be helpful in aiding human health.
Exploring significance in culture and folklore. What is laying dormant in our own consciousness and how can we learn ways of integrating birch into the human experience?
Food, which parts of birch is edible and how.
Naming of birch, botanical and place specific. What can the etymology of names both common and botanical tell us.
Identification, habitat, how to grow/propagate.
How can we learn about birch’s integral role in the web of life. How do other species interact with birch, and it back?
Developing a personal relationship with birch, exploring various methods to remember significant properties each tree has that we can use to help us in daily life. Finding a birch tree, or several trees which can be visited easily in the future.
You will go away with a good selection of art materials made either prior to the workshop by us, or on the day, and an exclusive Old Mill Arts booklet all about birch.

What to bring: All tools and materials provided. No prior experience necessary.

Cancellation Policy:
If you wish to cancel your booking we will refund you 100% of your overall payment if you cancel 4 weeks or more before the start date of the workshop you wish to cancel. We will refund you 50% of your overall payment if you cancel less than 4 weeks before the start date of the workshop you wish to cancel, or arrange a rescheduling onto another course where possible. If you cancel less than 1 week before the start date of the workshop you wish to cancel we will retain 100% of your payment and give you a 40% discount for another workshop with the equivalent price.
