What to expect:
In this workshop ‘Seven Planets, Seven Metals, Seven Colours’, you will travel through time to a perspective of the world mostly lost to modern culture.
In the ‘traditional craft practice’, colour carried rich symbolism and contained the view that a number of colours were born of the earth from metals, metals that were in relationship to the heavens.
Within this tradition, the seven visible planets were deemed to represent and hold special qualities and meanings, which in turn, were reflected within earthly metals.
The number seven has been held in deep symbolic reverence across cultures for millennia marking sacred time, divine creation, spiritual law, and celestial order. In terms of the colours on an artist’s palette, the seven colours you will experience during this workshop, literally embodied the cosmos.
After delving into some of the more symbolic aspects of the subject you will then experience the pigments and paints of the seven related colour collections. You will learn how each of the colours were formed from metals, and how they were historically used. You will mix some of these colours with traditional gum based binders creating your own handmade paints which you will then use to complete a poster based on a medieval astrological diagram.
You will go home with a selection of these alchemical paints and a beautiful hand painted poster. No prior experience necessary and all materials are provided.

If you wish to cancel your booking we will refund you 100% of your overall payment if you cancel 4 weeks or more before the start date of the workshop you wish to cancel. We will refund you 50% of your overall payment if you cancel less than 4 weeks before the start date of the workshop you wish to cancel, or arrange a rescheduling onto another course where possible. If you cancel less than 1 week before the start date of the workshop you wish to cancel we will retain 100% of your payment and give you a 40% discount for another workshop with the equivalent price.
